PROJECT

Improved decision-making processes for the Transfrontier Conservations Areas (TFCAs) of Southern Africa.

THEMES

My research intersects the three areas of policymaking and governance, community-based conservation and ecosystem management.

interests

My passion for both the environment as well as society has driven me to research the complex interface between humans and wilderness. Environmental governance at a global level and across borders has become increasingly important due to an increasing awareness of how individual countries affect the environment globally, as in the case of climate change and pollution. I am particularly interested in researching management issues in the international conservation domain, as it relates to the different levels of decision-making, from the local, often remote and marginalized community, to the global governmental stage. My current research focuses on the role of the transfrontier conservation areas of southern Africa and how its decision-making processes can be streamlined to bring about more robust management practices and environmental governance. The economic resilience of local communities and health of park management structures is a specific concern, and I hope to contribute some knowledge to the tremendously complex governance model of transfrontier conservation areas.
